IRCC held another all-program Express Entry draw today.

Today marked the first Express Entry draw of July, as Immigration Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 700 invitations to apply (ITAs) to candidates from all Express Entry programs. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score cut-off for invited candidates was 511, an increase from the previous CRS cut-off for all-program draws (486).

While today’s draw represents a return to normalcy for IRCC Express Entry draws, new changes are expected this week. June 28th marked the first category selection based draw in Express Entry’s history—issuing 500 ITAs to healthcare professionals in the federal Express Entry pool. Following an announcement by the immigration department on the same day, we can now expect two more category-based selection draws this week—for both STEM and healthcare professionals—projected to issue 1,500 ITAs to the latter.

In total there are six targeted categories including:

  • Healthcare workers;
  • Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professionals;
  • Trades, such as Carpenters, Plumbers and Contractors;
  • Transportation workers;
  • Agriculture and Agri-food workers; and
  • Candidates with strong French language proficiency.

These changes are part of Canada’s renewed commitment to addressing key labour and cultural needs through immigration means. This new policy has not deterred regular functioning of Express Entry managed programs, however: June 27th saw yet another all-program Express Entry draw occur, issuing 4,300 ITAs to candidates with a minimum CRS score of 486.

Since its introduction in 2015, the Express Entry programs have been a primary pathway for economic immigration in Canada. They typically issue ITAs for Permanent Residency to candidates in the federal pool with a sufficiently high CRS score.

The three programs that are managed by the Express Entry system include:
